“Para Kanino Bumabangon?”: How we won Philippine Innovation Challenge 2021

Business Cases and Presentations

It’s difficult to win in case competitions every single time since there’s no one-size-fits-all formula to solve case problems that are different in nature.

Philippine Innovation Challenge 2021 had Nestle as their case partner and presented the case brief of “How do we increase the yield and profits of our coffee farmers?” Of course, this came with other considerations such as “How do we promote local coffee?” and “How do we spark conversations to keep coffee trendy?”.

We presented a multi-faceted, multi-stakeholder, 3-part innovation under the campaign slogan “Kasambangon, Kasambiyahe, and Kasambalita”. This is composed of: 1) Nescommunity, a community-building endeavor, upskilling farmers with coffee farming and financial literacy skills, 2) Nescafe on Wheels, a mobile coffee shop, championing sustainable consumer behavior, and 3) Nescafe Pro App that ensures farmers get the right farmer data while enabling a gamification function for our consumers.

It was a tough competition with around 126 groups (~500 individuals) and we made it through, all while balancing out other life priorities.

Of course, I won’t stop joining case competitions since I find it value-adding as it pushes me to my limits. I truly live by what is seen in my zoom background, “Jemar, bumabangon para sa career”. I am continuously upskilling myself to be super value-adding to others.

Ikaw, para kanino ka bumabangon?
