Working in an undisputed number one Fintech company in the Philippines is such a great honor for a sophomore student like me. All my case competitions, leadership positions, and internship roles are leading towards this one strategic marketing role I have under GCash.
Even days before we start working, I already knew I am bound to handle big projects as the backgrounds of my final interviewers were mainly on strategic growth of the company.
I am currently working as an intern handling Growth Marketing for GLife under Customer Team. GLife is one of the added use cases of GCash featuring a set of merchants enclosed in their own mini programs. It is GCash's entry in its bid towards becoming a super app.
Not Just One, Not Just Two
One of the final interviewers in my stint noted how I presented my self through my introduction -- that I am a triple national champion in business case competitions.
"Not just once, not just twice, but thrice!" she said in awe.
I believe that in the company's bid towards becoming a super app, they actually need super humans, in my case, super intern to supercharge such growth.
Accounting Degree But Interested in Marketing?
In as early as my second day at GCash, my team lead already entrusted a three-year financial forecast of GLife profits to be presented to a GCash-based finance analyst. The task was given after lunch and soon as shared to me that it would be presented around 5PM. I did some modeling work and noted some assumptions on growth of user base as well as how much are people paying in general.
I presented like how I usually do in my competitions but now with not much pressure. At the end of the call, it was a nod from the finance team, and a win for us. My team lead said "good job legit" and eventually shared that I actually surpassed one of the respected and feared finance managers in the team.
This initial boost of confidence makes me so proud of myself that I could actually deliver a financial model in one afternoon sitting. It would be a disappointment on my end if I can not understand the variables impacting profits, especially I eat accounting on a daily basis.
Working with PR
I also got the chance to review and analyze storyboards for our year-long campaigns. I get to see how advertising agencies try to elaborate campaign briefs into potential creatives. I was even taught how to systematically comment on such proposals!
What else to expect from GLife in the future?
Truly GLife is one of the exciting things in GCash and I feel lucky to be handling it in its baby stage. Someday, I'll look back and say that it was me who curared the categories or that it was me who made a significant impact on the business.
GLife will have stronger features in the next months and will be as lively as the double doubles of the current e-commerce giants. We are transitioning from the number one fintech app to the number one super lifestyle app.
